Health Care Nightmare

If Karsyn will continue to practice medicine she might be our ace in the hole come retirement time. Otherwise we are sunk!!
Kara will be no help at all, she may kill me before I ever reach the old folks home.
Sweet little Mason Man is sure to sooth any aches or pains. He loves to give kisses now if you show him your boo boo.
One thing we won't have to worry about is our mental health as new recipes are coming out all the time like these Lemon Krinkles. Recipe at the end of the post.

Health care will be the one thing that might hold hubby back if he decides to retire early (62). Talk about a HOT mess!! Who knows how long it will take or what health care will look like when the powers that be are done playing around. All we can do at this point is try to stay health, and fully fund our HSA each year with hopes we don't have to dip into that fund. I could go on and on over health care but I don't want this blog to turn into a political statement. As is stands right now hubby's premium alone if he should decide to stick with the plan we have now through his company would be $1,100.00 each month. I should receive the spouse discount of $900.00. A $2,00.00 hit each month for coverage of $4,00.00 @ deductible on a fixed income won't work.

Busy day as always in the yard trying to do as much as we can before the next round of heavy rain hits. We have had 3.6 inches since last Sunday!! The weeds and clover are thriving, the garden..a muddy mess.

DD#1 is cooking Sunday dinner today!! Yepeee. She wants to expand her summer recipe ideas for pot luck/cookouts with friends and neighbors. Lucky us, we will be her guinea pigs. I offered to bring along desert as DD#1's idea of desert is "peel and stick cookies". You know the ones I am talking about in the refrigerate section of the grocery store right? All you do is open the package, peel off the pre-formed cookies (if you can call them that) and bake. Nasty

Somebody somewhere in FB land posted a recipe for Lemon Krinkle cookies last night. I have no idea how to add that FB link here so whoever came up with this idea it is wonderful!!! The cookies turn out a bit brownie like in texture if you bake them as directed. If you over bake them (I did one batch) they are are nice and crispy, perfect for tea!! Give them a try, nice light summer lemony taste.

Lemon Krinkles

1 Lemon cake mix  (you will use it dry)
1 egg slightly beaten
2 cups or 8 ounces of cool whip thawed
1-2 cups powder sugar for rolling cookie in

Mix together first 3 ingredients (I used a mixer)
Use a teaspoon size ball of dough then roll in powder sugar (dough will be VERY sticky) I decided to let the dough set in the fridge for an hour or so, it made the dough a little less sticky.
Bake at 350 for 14 minuets

  1. Debby,
Health care....ugh! With my husband's job, we will have health care, with a low premium, until we hit Medicare age, which is a blessing. I'm not sure how we would do it otherwise. We do pay for dental and have no vision coverage. I think when planning for retirement, the biggest cost is health care.
Enjoy not cooking Sunday dinner... :)

  3. Don't get me started on healthcare!! It's a reason my husband is losing a job....Ugh!! Tell your daughter to try my pasta salad (if she likes pasta): http://frugalandthankful.blogspot.com/2013/03/pasta-ham-salad.html. It's always a hit with all our potlucks! Even the kids love it (even though it's loaded with vegetables :)

  4. Yep, health care is the reason we almost retired in Germany.i could be paid in dollars and spend euros as and still come out as head because of the health care difference-hello socialized medicine.

the medical care/cobra issue is one of the major drawbacks for people who want to retire early. Its a killer for folks who get laid off prior to medicare ager.
