Hubby had his surgery this morning, happy to report he did great! He is now laid out on the couch with his leg elevated for the next 72 hours, one hour on and off with an ice pack. So here is what I found funny. From all the sports injuries our DD's have had over the years I know the best ice pack in the world is a bag of frozen, peas, corn or some such thing. After getting hubby all set up I ran to the pharmacy to pick up his new drugs as well as some sort of frozen veggie. Hubby wanted me to get broccoli because he likes it best. I explained to him the veggie was for an ice pack not for eating. It took me some time to get him to understand we will NOT be eating a bag of veggies that will be moving in and out of the freezer for the next few days. MEN!!
Here is what was NOT so funny. Last night around 6:00PM we get a call from the hospital regarding hubby's surgery the next morning (11 hours till surgery) The lady wanted a debit card or credit card for us to prepay for the surgery in the amount of $4,700.00. The total estimated bill for the hospital alone was $7,000.00. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! You expect people to come up with that kind of money with no notice? Yep they did. After checking that we have a deductible of $4,000.00 we would have to prepay. Nope ain't gonna happen. This surgery has been scheduled for over a month, you call at the last minute expecting us to pay up? Yep they did. I know for a fact we have already paid bills (lots) leading up to the big day that will be applied to our deductible as well as our monthly prescription drugs. I am NOT paying the full deductible to you. Her response was go ahead and make the payment now, we can send you a refund later. Nope ain't gonna happen. I finally agreed we would pay $500.00 up front but no more until we received a bill AFTER the surgery as well as a statement from the insurance company letting us know what the amount due is after our insurance discount as well as what we still owed towards our deductible.GRRRRR We would pay in CASH at check out, I am not giving out credit/debit card numbers over the phone.
Don't know what happened but we were never ask to make a payment this morning at the hospital. Guess they didn't have time to update their system since they waited till the last minute to make the call. Who knows who cares. As I collected hubby's belongings I threw in his little box of tissue. He tells me he is fine he doesn't need it. BS, at $7,000.00 that we are sure to be billed for at some point that box of tissue is all mine.
I went ahead and got our chicken noodle soup made up yesterday not knowing when we might get home from the hospital today. Hubby was very happy to have something warm and yummy after fasting since 9:00PM last night. He started out with some peanut butter and crackers to make sure he could keep anything down, then it was on to the soup followed by an ice cream sandwich then on to a cinnamon bun. Yep I do believe he will be fine. Ha
I am happy that I won't have to do any cooking today unless I want to play around in the kitchen as we had to get up at 4:00AM to arrive at the hospital on time. Can we all say NAP TIME!!!!
