Weekend Projects

Hubby built a lean to for his classic 1968 tractor with very little help from me.
We finally got the finishing touches on my Mothers Day gift, LOVE the new Pergola!!
It was cheaper to buy 2 panels of drapes than to make them for the open side.
In addition to the Pergola I received a new bird bath from hubby!!

We busted our rumps over the weekend to get a few more of the big projects knocked out on our list, seems it will never end! While hubby worked on his lean to Saturday I finished planting in all the gardens and beds, mowed the yard, cut down more saplings that are popping up everywhere and a million other little things around the yard. We were in bed before the sun was down Saturday night! Ha, to old for this crap for sure.

Sunday was much slower paced. I woke up with aches and pains all over my body, my throat felt like I swallowed a Brillo pad, not a good start for the day. We somehow pulled Sunday/Mothers Day dinner off but that was it. Today was no better with my fever climbing as the day went on. Gotta love the germy little grands!! It's aspirin and bed for me tonight with hopes of felling better tomorrow, luckily I only have Mason man who is SO easy to deal with.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers Day!! While I felt like road kill we still enjoyed a nice dinner with all our kiddo's and grands and they showered me with such nice gifts, flowers, new rose bush and a charm for my bracelet of course the Pergola and bird bath from hubby. The best gift of all each day is being able to be with them, germs and all!!

Mothers Day Rerun

 Mothers Day

June 1960, left to right; me, our Mother, little sister in front, we are wearing dresses our Mother made us

I have been torn since yesterday if I should do this post, is it just too sad for folks to read when tomorrow is a day to celebrate Mothers or is it just right? Some Mothers are here for just a short period of time but leave a lasting impact for generations to come. My Mother was one of those special ladies. She died June 10, 1960 at 21 years old, I was 3 1/2, my sister was 1 1/2 years old. This photo is of her with my Sister and I the day she left for the hospital for a routine surgery, she never returned home...a rare hereditary brain disorder took her life in the form of an aneurysm. About a month ago I received a letter that my Father (who has also passed) wrote to my Mothers sister soon after her death, while his outpouring of love and grief wasn't as long or as eloquent as the attached blog post (end of this post) it is filled with the love and overwhelming grief he was feeling as well as the enormous responsibility he faced bringing up two little girls on his own that continued to ask why can't Mother come back home, we need her.

Yesterday a friend posted on FB an attachment to a blog about her neighbour and Mother of a little girl on her own Daughters soccer team. I will forewarn you get a box of tissue before you go to the blog post, it is a heart breaking story much like the letter my Father wrote that I have just recently received. Mothers are so very special even if they are only here with us a short period of time, celebrate your Mother tomorrow but don't forget to celebrate yourself and all the love and devotion you have poured into your own children, you are each a wonderful gift from God.

The week is done, yepeee

The little girls enjoyed a picnic lunch today, perfect weather we are having.
And enjoyed snack time with Papaw.
Followed up with some race car time. We live in NASCAR land after all, gotta start them young.
Ended the day with a cool toddler beverage.

The week is done and what a week it has been. We have been working non stop since hubby arrived home last week with no end in sight. However it's all good we are knocking out lots of big and little projects on our list. Our drug of choice is Excedrin back and body pain reliever as well as a beer or two for hubby and some Doves chocolate for me. Yep we are livin the life!! HA

Tomorrow starts early with our breakfast club buddies then off to the Tee Ball Braves game. Hubby has started building a lean to for his new 1968 tractor/tiller, looks like I am his assistant, lucky me. I have a set of drape/curtain things to whip up then get my menu ready for Mothers Day. The fella's will be grilling but I have the task of the sides and desert, no problem with that for me as I love to cook and our big girls are clueless. Also on the list is to get the corn, cantaloupe and watermelon seeds planted as well as thinning some of the seeds we planted last weekend. I HATE to thin seeds, it seems so cruel to cut their little heads off after they have been nice enough to grow for us.

Hope everyone enjoys their Mothers Day weekend!!!!

Monkey Girl

Poor Mason gets no rest when Karsyn is around, no wonder my back is giving me fits!!

The grands kept me on my toes today, I sat down ZERO times. You would think with all the running around after them and weight lifting I would be slim and trim, not so much!! Karsyn not only climbs the crib, once she gets her footing right she tries to tilt it over. Never a dull moment with this little gal around.

Tonight hubby's buddies came by to put up my Mothers Day gift. It is amazing how fast it come together when we had enough able bodied men. We treated them all for dinner as a thank you, they chose a fish house, YUCK. It's a southern thing I'm sure, you can smell the grease everything is fried in a block away. I went with the small fried shrimp and only ate one hush puppies but my mouth feels like it has a film of grease on it, double yuck. Headed to bed early with a bottle on tums for what is sure to be a bloated feeling all night. The 3 youngest grands will be here tomorrow all day, gotta be ready to MOVE.

We thank God every day for bringing these little rug rats into our life no matter how much work they are!!!

Simple Day

Finish a baby girl quilt today, now I can use the leftovers for an additional dress of the grands.
 The back.
Mason man and his tasty toes.

Mason man and I had a very quite day today!! Ya Us!! We both did things we love, me some sewing and cooking, him some toe eating, what more could we ask for. Tomorrow the little girls will join us....it won't be quite for sure. I went ahead and pre made the breakfast and lunches for the girls and I  with hopes that at least feeding time will go a little smoother.

The biggie for me today was I finished my "Secret Sister" gift, can't wait to get it in the mail and in my sisters sweet hands!! To stay under budget I had to get creative with what was on hand in the house and using coupons for the store purchase. Next on my to do is " Handmade Play it Forward" gift, I am still on the fence with what I want to make but very close to deciding. It's nice to be caught up on my must do sewing, now on to the 101 things started or are on the can't wait to try list.

Some Assembely Required

32 packages of strawberries are tucked into the freezer.
A little free motion quilting is on the agenda for today.

I am happy to report 61% of North Carolinans have voted to amend our constitution to recognize marriage as one man and one woman. As for my friend, of course I will forgive her however she will have to understand there are boundaries in all relationships, name calling is not OK. We can agree we disagree but getting in the gutter ain't gonna happen. It is funny how some of the very liberal folks around can't seem to articulate their point of view without resorting to name calling and labeling.

Hubby and I tried to work on my some assembly required Mothers Day gift yesterday afternoon, it was an ugly situation. Between running indoors during the sudden downpours and lightning strikes nothing was accomplished other than knowing we can't do this on our own. I did glance over the instructions this morning, the first thing it suggests is 4 adults needed to assembly, 2 middle age farts are not in the directions. Hubby has the task of calling in a few favors from his man friends to get the job done, I will be in charge of feeding them and keeping cool beverages ready to go!!

Narrow Minded Bigot

A mix of annuals, can't wait to see what it will look like once things begin to grow.
I under planted in all of our planters this year to save a few bucks, with a little luck they will fill in nicely.
Love old fashion climbing roses, we have 2 additional ones that need to be moved so they can get more sun, all in time.
I love when it's cool enough to open the door and let the fresh air in.

A few more photo's of some of the work we finished over the weekend, we are due for some rain in the next 2 days, that should make all the flowers and garden happy as well as give my body a few days rest!!

Today is Voting day in NC, hubby is taking off at lunch so we can go together, he can lift that crazy heavy car seat of Mason's out for me. In our mind the biggest thing on the voting ticket this time around is the marriage act. The marriage act will define marriage as a man and a woman only, no more of the crazy liberal definitions that change each year. The government can make up all the unions, groupings or whatever the heck they want to call it but they need to stay out of the marriage business, that's God's turf!!!!

Yesterday as I was talking with someone I care deeply about, the marriage act came up in conversation. I was shocked to learn she will be voting against the amendment, and I do mean SHOCKED!!!! How can this be, she is a Christian lady, what the heck are you thinking? She then goes on to basically attack me personally that I pick and choose what I want to follow in the Bible, I am a hypocrite. Excuse me but if you are a Christian and a married lady who is trying to bring up your family with Cristian values how the heck can you be for the government defining what marriage is. The conversation went down hill fast after she called me "narrow minded and a bigot"

I am here this morning to say we believe in marriage as one man and one woman as God intended it to be. If you follow this blog and are offended by our values please delete this blog from you list. I will not be bullied by the name calling of anyone no matter how much I may value their friendship. I can't even believe we have to in act laws like this to keep marriage Holy. When hubby and I married 37 years ago we made a covenant with each other and with God. Over the years there has been times when I would like to kick his butt to the curb, the feeling is mutual I am sure. But never in a million years would be break the covenant we made with God, he really is the glue that has held us together in the bad times. The state of Alabama where we married has had nothing to due with our success in our marriage and family, God's hand has been on us always.

Off to do some vacuuming. Some people eat when they are stressed, others shop or maybe take to their bed, me I vacuum. The Oreck better not let me down this morning!!!!
