A Finish!!

I planned on starting DD#1 Birthday quilt today. She wanted a quilt made from minky fabric. I figured I would do the cutting. spray basting, and sewing on the deck to keep the fuzz out of the house. As you can see the weather was not cooperating. We are having her Birthday dinner on Saturday, there was no time to waste. Holy Hannah this stuff is a MESSS to work with.
These quilts are easy and fast to complete. I used this tutorial when I made my first minky quilt, works GREAT for me! Cuddle Soft Quilt Kits. I couldn't find a kit that I thought DD#1 would like so I had to cut up lots of fuzzy fabric. Oh my word, I was eating minky fuzz all day.
Her quilt turned out wonderful. Soft as warm butter. Hubby got excited when he first came home and went to sit in his chair thinking the quilt was his. He now wants his name on the to do list for a cuddle quilt.
I used the scraps from DD#1 quilt to make a mini quilt for Karsyn. Knowing the way things go around here DD#1 will end up with the mini quilt and Karsyn will be having the full size one! Ha
See all the fuzzy on the table and floor? The entire kitchen, breakfast room, family room, powder room and hall was covered in the stuff. I spent 2 hours and 15 minutes vacuuming every nook and cranny downstairs. Yes I timed myself!! Ha
Here is the ceiling fan above our kitchen table where I was working. A nice layer of fuzz ended up here as well. Hubby was my knight in shinning armor, he cleaned both kitchen fans for me!!

I am so happy to be done with DD#1 Birthday quilt!!! The clean up was no fun at all but she really is worth the extra work. I ended up having extra minky leftover from her quilt, it is folded nicely and stored with all the other minky fabric for now. I think I might have enough to make a child's quilt if I purchase more fabric for the backing....humm Grands might all be getting minky quilts for Christmas, they really do love this fabric. I used the scraps for Karsyn a "lamby" she carry's around a 1/2 dozen of them for sleeping. I am sure we will have some nice sunny fall days before Christmas. This so needs to be an outside project!!!!

Tomorrow will be what I hope is finishing up lots of other things floating around the place and getting myself more organized to carry on. The more fabric I wrap the more little things I am finding that need just a bit of work to finish. Gonna pull out the crock pot first off to put dinner on then hit the floor running. Well running is a strong word these days. Hit the floor hobbling is more the case.

I have the next step of the "Halloween Pinwheel Quilt Along" ready to go, hope to post it tomorrow along with a few more finishes. Have a great night!!!!

  1. I can't blame your hubby for wanting to be on the Minky Quilt list, they do look so wonderfully cuddly. How do those fans manage to pickup ever little clingon of something? I almost thought you were going to say there was enough minky material left over for matching pillow shams!

  6. I am surprised that the minky quilt made such a mess, I would never have thought of that. Seems like your family is happy with it...that's important.
